Joaquin's Recipe Of The Week: Strawberry Cake With Chocolate Icing

This week Joaquin’s recipe of choice was strawberry cake with chocolate icing! A very creative mix of flavors, which tasted like a cake version of a chocolate covered strawberry. Luna and I grabbed the ingredients before Joaquin got out of school, and got right to cooking when we all got home.

I used Paula Deen’s Simply Delicious Strawberry Cake recipe, and Lauren’s Latest Easy Chocolate Icing. Ok so…the recipe calls for frozen strawberries in syrup, and I could only find plain ole frozen strawberries. The cake definitely could’ve been sweeter, so if you can find the kind with the syrup grab that one, since I think it would’ve made it less bland.

Anyway! We started baking, with Joaquin helping me with measurements and mixing…oh and taste testing of course. When the cakes were in the oven, we made the icing. The recipe calls for 3-4 tablespoons of milk at the end, and I used all 4 and it was still pretty thick. To make this cake even more unique, Joaquin added a sprinkle pile on top. We had so much fun making this cake and it turned out super yummy! Watch our process below!
